Burton Island was established as a state park in 1964. It is only accessible by boat, but it has a large campground, swimming areas, and hiking trails.
Directions
A passenger ferry can be caught at Kamp Kill Kare:
From the South: Take I-89 North. Take exit 19 and merge onto St. Albans State Hwy. Take a right on South Main St and follow this road for about half a mile and then take a left on VT 36 (Lake St.). Follow this for approximately 3 miles and then take a right to remain on VT 36. After crossing the bridge, take your first left onto Hathaway Point Rd. This road will end at the entrance to Kamp Kill Kare.
From the North: Take I-89 South. Take exit 20 and turn right onto VT 207. Turn left to remain onto US Route 7 S and follow this for about 2 miles. Turn right onto VT 36 (Lake St.). Follow this for approximately 3 miles and then take a right to remain on VT 36. After crossing the bridge, take your first left onto Hathaway Point Rd. This road will end at the entrance to Kamp Kill Kare.
