Farmland Conservation

Paradise Bay Farm

View from Paradise Bay Farm photo courtesy Lake Champlain Land TrustBob and Ann Buermann donated a conservation easement on over 19 acres of wildlife habitat along a scenic ridge of open farmland located in South Hero, VT.  Additionally, Jay and Kathy Buermann (Bob’s brother and sister-in-law), donated a conservation easement on over 13 acres of adjacent farmland.  This conservation easement protects valuable farmland, while also conserving the spectacular panoramic view of Lake Champlain from North Hero south to Colchester.  This property was conserved in partnership with the South Hero Land Trust in 2006.

Keeler Bay

Keeler BayMunson Earth Moving Corporation approached the Lake Champlain Land Trust and the South Hero Land Trust to donate a conservation easement on a total of 234 acres of lakeshore, agricultural fields, and forested wetlands in South Hero, VT in 1998 and 2001 (two separate donations).  Not only does this conserved property protect valuable agriculture land and lakeshore, but it also conserves scenic views of Lake Champlain.

Buckstr Farm

The Starbuck family donated a conservation easement on this farm, consisting of 138 acres of agricultural land in Grand Isle, VT, in 1999.  Under the easement, the Starbucks are allowed to cultivate existing fields, as well as tap the extensive sugar bush on the property.
