Round Pond Natural Area

Directions and Park Information:

The Round Pond Natural Area is one of the most beautiful properties on the Lake with 170 acres of rolling hills that provide wonderful views of Mount Mansfield. It includes a critical lakeshore and a wetland area that is home to nesting and migrating waterfowl and two rare plants: slender bulrush and pale vetchling. The Lake Champlain Land Trust, South Hero Land Trust, Vermont Land Trust, and the Nature Conservancy preserved of this keystone property on the Islands in 2001. The unique habitat makes Round Pond an excellent public access natural area.


Round Pond Natural Area is one of 40 properties saved by the Lake Champlain Land Trust. Over the past 25 years the Land Trust has preserved thousands of acres and miles of shoreline on Lake Champlain. For information on becoming a member visit our website www.LCLT.org!

Take Exit 17 off of Interstate-89 to Route 2 West towards the Islands.  Take first left in South Hero on Landon Road off of Route 2. Follow Landon Road for about ½ mile, turn left onto East Shore Road. Follow East Shore Road down a small hill and park in the gravel pull-off on the left side of the road. The farm road /trail entrance is marked with a small yellow State Park sign.

Round Pond Natural Area is managed by Vermont's Agency of Forests, Parks, and Recreation. Hikers, hunters, snowshoers and birdwatchers are welcome.
