Law Island was preserved in 1994 thanks largely to the Lake Champlain Land Trust with generous support from the community. This island has long been appreciated for its unique flora and fauna, scenic views, and recreational use. Today Law Island offers an excellent location for bird watching, camping and picnicking. As a wonderfully secluded spot in a relatively high-traffic part of the Lake, Law Island provides the local community with a tranquil natural area. Law Island is one of 40 properties saved by the Lake Champlain Land Trust. Over the past 25 years the Land Trust has preserved thousands of acres and miles of shoreline on Lake Champlain. For information on becoming a member visit our website www.LCLT.org! |
Law Island in Lake Champlain is located 100 yards southwest of the Colchester Point Causeway near the breakwater of Malletts Bay. Avoid steep shale bluffs by landing in the northeast cove.
Law Island is managed by the Town of Colchester. Paddlers are invited to picnic, swim and hike. Please note that there are no potable water supplies or facilities. Tent sites are on the western side of the island, no fees or reservations required. No fires are allowed on Law Island. Keep an eye out for rare yellow lady slipper and buffaloberry shrubs |
