Stay overnight at Knight Island State Park, and you may be surprised to hear nothing at all during your stay except the quiet patrols of state park ranger Jim Putnam. "The beauty of the island is that there’s nothing there," Jim says. Knight Island provides serenity with its protected bays for swimmers, trail system, and old pasture land. Conserved in 1990 by the Lake Champlain Land Trust, Knight Island was one of a few remaining undeveloped islands on the Lake to be secured by state parks. Woods Island, a state park next to Knight Island, was also conserved by the Lake Champlain Land Trust. Knight Island is one of 40 properties saved by the Lake Champlain Land Trust. Over the past 25 years the Land Trust has preserved thousands of acres and miles of shoreline on Lake Champlain. For information on becoming a member visit our website www.LCLT.org |
Knight Island is east of the North Hero Town Hall and west of Woods Island. A ferry runs from Kill Kare State Park in St. Albans to Knight and Woods Islands between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Contact Burton Island State Park at (802) 524-6353 for information on rates, times, and reservations.
Knight Island is managed by Vermont State Parks. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day Knight Island State Park requires a reservation and fee to camp. There is no electricity and the southern tip of Knight Island is private. |
